Jenni Rope (b.1977) is an Finnish visual artist working with painting, sculpture, artist’s books and public art. She is interested in creating repetitive rhythms and illusions of movement, light and space on the canvas. Her paintings are made without sketches or preliminary plans, and the shapes and colors are found intuitively while working and continue serially from painting to painting. With her works, she aims to awaken multi-sensory experiences brought by color, movement and shapes. Rope’s work is inspired by the world of textile patterns, the rhythms of architecture and nature, and the shapes brought by chance.
Rope has studied painting at the Free Art School in Helsinki, graphic design at the Helsinki University of Art and Design (now Aalto University), animation at the London College of Printing (now London College of Communication), and received her MFA in painting at the Helsinki Fine Art Academy. Her work is found in several private collections, and in the collections of the Oulu Art Museum, the Saastamoinen Foundation, the HAM Helsinki Art Museum, and the Finnish state collection. Rope's works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad since 2004. She lives and works in Helsinki, Finland.
